Silver wedding dresses - cool and on trend

Silver wedding dresses are a great choice to wear for weddings of all seasons, and they’ve certainly got the seal of approval from a number of bridal designers and celebrities over the past year.

It’s a highly adaptable shade that can be used to create the most futuristic of bridal outfits (think shiny metallics) to more demure satin, floaty, ball gown-style dresses.

The sophisticated dress on the right is a wonderful example of silver mixed with shiny metallics, seen at the Couture Group show by Knot magazine for Fall 2013 at the New York Bridal Fashion Week.

It is a colour that conveys an air of magic, mystery, and sophistication, and silver bridal gowns look particularly enchanting at evening weddings, where a backdrop of candles will make both the bride and dress literally glow like something from a dream.

It’s a highly-adaptable colour that can be mixed with ivories, whites and a number of other shades to suit your mood.

Silver wedding dresses are also very well suited to sequins, pearls, and crystal embroidery, and crystal and diamond accessories like necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and tiaras.

Whilst silver can be worn throughout the year, it is noticeably dazzling for indoor events, or outdoors during the festive season. If you’re planning to get married in a ballroom, manor house or castle, a strapless silver gown with embellishments and overlays of vintage black lace will take this sparkling colour to a whole new level. Alternatively, if you’re only just summoning the courage to consider wearing a coloured wedding dress, a pale grey gown is a less ostentatious option that you might be more comfortable with.

When it comes to skin tone, silver wedding dresses suit nearly all complexions. However, if you find that white normally washes you out, you may wish to pick a stronger silver hue such as steel or platinum.

Whether you want to be the ultimate ice queen or an ethereal vision on your wedding day, your choice of fabric (such as modern metallic, or soft satin and lace) makes anything possible.
