1920 Flapper Wedding Dresses: a touch of glamour

If you’re after a wedding day with a difference, then it’s not just your choice of venue that can make it stand out from the crowd.

Thanks to the vintage revival, 1920 wedding dresses offer an elegant and stunning alternative to the run-of-the-mill bridal gown. Whether you’d prefer an authentic antique dress, a reproduction, or a modern twist on the original, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the range of these wonderful creations on offer.

This type of dress dates back to the early 20th century, and they are most often embellished with exquisite detail.

From hand-embroidered to beaded or both, this style of gown epitomises the fun, fashion, and frivolity of the roaring twenties.

Across Europe and America, designers like Jean Patou, and Jeanne Lanvin started a trend that spread like wildfire, ditching uncomfortable Victorian corsets and full skirts in favour of dropped waistlines, and shorter hemlines that defined the new modern woman and introduced a wanton sex appeal to women’s clothing.

With 1920s wedding dresses, the options really are endless. Whether you’re looking for a full-length gown or an above-the-knee cut, both will look extremely feminine and glamorous. The majority of these vintage dresses are white and include a high, rounded neckline, although there are some v-neck styles if you want to enhance your body shape. The cut is usually very clean and straight, with either short sleeves or short sleeves and often feature a dropped waistband.

You can really go to town with original or replica 20’s-style accessories including; long strings of pearls, lace or feather headbands or an Art Deco inspired clutch to show off at your wedding reception. Equally, you can choose from traditional bridal make up, or go for Clara Bow dainty red lips and kohl-edged eyes.

Flapper fashion continues to inspire trend-upon-trend, and you can currently see plenty of fringe-filled catwalks and Art Deco accessories from top designers like Ralph Lauren (Spring/Summer 2012), Gucci, and Chanel.

1920s wedding dresses are fun, flirty and fabulous; so, if that describes you to a tee, they could well be the perfect option for your special day.
